Ann B. Mech, R.N., J.D. Biography

Ann Mech joined the CareFirst of Maryland, Inc. (CFMI) Board on September 4, 2013 and in January 2016 became Chair of the CFMI Board. She also joined the CareFirst, Inc. (CFI) Board in January 2016.

Ann Mech, JD, MS, RN is Director, Legal Affairs for the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She came to the School of Nursing in 1988 from University of Maryland Medical System, where she was an Assistant Director of Nursing. In addition to her role in legal affairs at the School of Nursing, Ann also teaches courses on health policy and legal issues in nursing in the School’s graduate programs.

Combining the fields of nursing and law, Ann Mech received both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society and is licensed as a Registered Nurse in Maryland. Her Juris Doctor degree is from George Washington University. She is a member of the Maryland Bar and the Bar of the US Supreme Court.

A resident of Dayton, MD, her community activities have included serving as chair of the Howard County Board of Health and as a member of the Howard County CORE Service Agency Task Force for Mental Health. She has also served on the board of directors of Howard County General Hospital and the Horizon Foundation of Howard County. She was a member of Maryland’s Health Benefit Exchange Continuity of Care Advisory Committee. Currently, she serves on the board of Vantage House, a continuing care retirement community, and the Nursing Advisory Board of Howard Community College.
