2016 plan updates may affect member benefits

Updates to some 2016 plans affect copayments that are collected at the time of service.

To avoid delays in claims processing, remember to always use CareFirst Direct or CareFirst on Call (for Professional and Institutional providers) to verify member information, such as:

  • copayments to be collected
  • benefits and eligibility
  • effective date of coverage

Copays should be collected at the time of service. If you fail to collect at the time of service, the member may be billed following the receipt of your Notice of Payment or 835 Electronic Remittance Advice.
