Update: Resetting Your Provider Portal Password
Earlier this month, CareFirst introduced a new security protocol to better protect your information. As part of this update, all existing users are asked to reset their Provider Portal (CareFirst Direct) passwords. New users as of August 18 are not affected.
While many users completed the process successfully, some who rely on email for multifactor authentication may not have received the email containing the code to complete their password reset. Our technical team has resolved the issue, and you can now proceed with the updated process.
If you were impacted:
- Go to the provider portal login screen to complete the password reset.
- Select Need help signing in?, then choose Forgot password.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.
After resetting, log in with your updated credentials and enroll in our new passwordless login option by selecting Register Passkey and following the prompts. This feature allows you to sign in securely without entering a password.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve your experience and protect your information. The new security protocol is designed to simplify your portal experience and help ensure that sensitive data remains secure.
