Important Update: Simplifying Utilization Management Fax Submissions

CareFirst is improving our utilization management fax intake process to make submissions easier and more efficient. As part of this update, we are reducing the number of authorization request fax forms from more than 30 to just two. This change supports a new technology solution designed to streamline and speed up fax submissions.

Important: Electronic submission through the CareFirst Provider Portal remains the most efficient way to submit prior authorization requests. Fax submissions should be used only in rare situations when the provider portal is not available.

What’s Changing

  • Fewer Fax Forms: Providers will now use two standardized authorization request forms instead of multiple forms for different request types. These new forms will be available on the provider website and will support all prior authorization requests.
  • Consolidated Fax Numbers:Fax lines will be reduced so that each line of business has one dedicated fax number for all utilization management requests. This change reduces confusion and helps ensure more timely processing of requests.
