Updates to CareFirst’s Genetic Testing Medical Policy
At CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and CareFirst BlueChoice, Inc. (CareFirst), we want our members to continue to receive the timely, quality care that they deserve, as well as empower our healthcare delivery partners to provide the same excellent care as they always have.
Effective November 1, CareFirst has revised Medical Policy 11.01.073, Genetic Testing to remove the requirement of pretest genetic counseling. All other portions of the policy, including prior authorization requirements, remain in effect.
This change was made per recent conversations with AIM Specialty Health® (AIM).
Please continue to submit prior authorizations for Genetic Testing through AIM as previously communicated. You may submit your authorization by calling AIM directly at 844-377-1277, or logging on to the CareFirst Provider Portal and selecting the Genetic Testing (Commercial) tile under the Prior-Auth/Notifications tab.
