Effective October 1, 2024: New Prior Authorization Requirement for Power Wheelchair Accessory
CareFirst is continually working with healthcare delivery partners to optimize utilization management strategies to increase efficiencies and control costs while ensuring members receive affordable, quality care. Prior authorization helps balance access with appropriate utilization. Effective October 1, the following HCPCS code will require prior authorization:
- E2298 (Complex rehabilitative power wheelchair accessory, power seat elevation system, any type)
This requirement applies to all commercial lines of business, excluding the Federal Employee Program (FEP).
