Pending Regulatory Approval - CareFirst Agrees to Acquire Managed Medicaid Plans in MD and DC
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) announced today it reached an agreement to acquire two managed Medicaid plans. Pending regulatory review and approval, CareFirst will acquire University of Maryland Health Partners (Health Partners), a managed Medicaid plan currently owned by the University of Maryland Medical System serving members in Baltimore City and 20 Maryland counties. CareFirst has also reached an agreement to acquire Trusted Health Plan (Trusted), a managed Medicaid plan serving approximately 35,000 members in Washington, D.C.
CareFirst will not assume operation of Health Partners or Trusted until regulatory review and approval is complete. There will be no immediate changes to coverage and services, and members should continue calling their customer service line.
