COVID-19 Update to Vaccine Administration Rate

CareFirst seeks to remain current with rapid changes to coding and payment related to COVID-19 services. Based on changes recently announced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, we increased our payment for administration of COVID-19 vaccines effective April 1.

This increase to our standard fees is intended to provide additional resources to accelerate vaccination efforts for CareFirst members. We will continue to monitor vaccine payments and may make additional changes as needed.

Providers can view their updated fee schedule in the CareFirst provider Portal using this User Guide. Billing instructions for COVID-19 services can be found on our Coronavirus Resource Center. Member education and tools to help providers promote vaccination are available there as well.

Other COVID-19 Initiatives

This increase is one of many actions CareFirst is taking to support our communities during COVID. Last month we emailed you about our Better Together Campaign. Since its launch in early March, over 750 organizations have taken the Pledge. Thanks to their support along with the support of our associates, CareFirst will be donating over $1 million to three community providers on the frontline of the vaccine deployment in Maryland, DC, Northern Virginia, and West Virginia. It’s not too late to show your support! You can still sign the pledge.
