G. Mark Chaney is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. He is the head of the Finance Division which is comprised of financial, accounting, actuarial, underwriting, risk management, treasury and real estate operations. Mr. Chaney joined the company in 1991 when then-Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maryland (BCBSMD) purchased CareFirst, Inc., an independent health maintenance organization (HMO) at which Mr. Chaney had been Chief Financial Officer. He was named Vice President of BCBSMD's Finance and Treasury department in 1994. In 1997, Mr. Chaney was promoted to Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. He played a key role as a member of the executive management team that conceived and implemented the business combination of the Blue Cross Blue Shield plans serving the Maryland and National Capital Area that led to the formation of CareFirst in 1999.
Mr. Chaney is actively involved in the community, serving on the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee of the United Way of Central Maryland since 2011. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, he received his MBA from Loyola College in Baltimore and is a certified public accountant.
