Michael J. McShea originally joined the Group Hospitalization and Medical Services, Inc. (GHMSI) Board in 2016. In 2019, he was elected to the CareFirst of Maryland, Inc. Board (CFMI) and in 2021, he was also elected to the CareFirst, Inc. (CFI) Board. He was elected Chairman of the CFMI Board in September 2022.

Mike is a Group Chief Scientist Lead at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in the Health and Human-Machine Systems group, supporting the National Health Mission Area. In this role he works with military health system, academic medical research organizations and commercial organizations on healthcare technology solutions. Before APL, Mike was the lead product management executive for the Hospital to Home business unit at Philips Healthcare, where he managed the product portfolios including telehealth, clinical decision support, population health, and digital health solutions.

Mike has held multiple executive positions across different industries before Philips. He was SVP of Product Management and Marketing at Contact Solutions a cloud-based contact center technology company. He also ran a global extranet service for the commercial airlines, had a technology leadership position in Citibank’s Global Network division, and directed mission operations for multiple scientific satellite programs while at Lockheed Martin.

Mike’s broad technical and IT operations experience with highly available, secure, mission-critical applications, combined with executive experience driving market strategy and product innovation, have put him at the center of business transformation in healthcare.

Mike has an MBA from the Carey Business School of Johns Hopkins University, a Master’s in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from Bucknell University. Mike and his wife and three children reside in Ellicott City, Maryland.
