ICD-10 Mandate Delay
May 01, 2014 - On April 1, 2014, the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 was signed into law, which included language that states Health and Human Services (HHS) cannot adopt ICD-10 code sets before Oct. 1, 2015. With this legislation, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will be releasing new guidance, which is expected to delay the ICD-10 compliance deadline to Oct. 1, 2015 or later.
CareFirst will comply with federal guidance, and will not accept ICD-10 claims until the new CMS compliance deadline. CareFirst has adjusted our ICD-10 preparation activities to match this new timeline.
