Md. Providers: New Online Pre-Auth
Requirement for July 1
May 12, 2015 - Effective July 1, 2015, in accordance with Maryland legislation, Maryland providers will be required to submit all pharmacy and medical pre-authorization requests online.
We highly encourage all network providers in our other jurisdictions (Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia) to submit pre-authorization requests online. To determine which services and medications require pre-authorization, visit www.carefirst.com/preauth.
How to Submit Online
To obtain pre-authorization online, log in to the Provider Portal (CareFirst Direct) at www.carefirst.com/providerlogin and navigate to the Pre-Auth / Notifications tab to start your request.
